Harvard's tennis team appears to be in airly good shape after this weekend's Eastern League fall tournament at Princeton.

No one won any titles, but all three of coach Jack Barnaby's sophomore prospects played well.

The veterans didn't do so well, but this didn't bother Barnaby. Dave Benjamin had to play on a hard court against John Reese of Penn, who later won the tournament, and the powerful Reese won easily. Clive Kileff, Harvard's number two man, ed Army's Wait Oehrlein 8-1 in an "inercollegiate set" before losing 12-10. Oehrlein lost to Reese in the finals.

Chum Steele, bothered by a bad cold lost early, and captain Dean Peckham, with a back injury, didn't even play. But sophomore Dick Appleby took over Peckham's number four position and went to the final of the "Class B" tournament, which included the third and fourth men from all eight Ivy teams, plus Army and Navy.

In the finals Apple by dropped a match to Clay Hamlin, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, a Pennsylvania sophomore.

Two other sophomores, Nick Hoogs and Brian Davis, went to the semifinals of the "Class C" tournament for fifth and sixth-ranked men. Both were beaten by Princeton players, Hoogs by C.D. Smith, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, and Davis by Warren Daane, 6-2, 6-2. Hoogs led Smith 5-2 in the third set before losing.
