Yacht Club Will Build Boathouse

The Harvard Yacht Club was granted permission to build a sailing pavilion on the Charles River Basin by the Metropolitan District Commission last week.

James A. Rousmaniere '40, chairman of the Friends of Harvard Sailing, told the commission that the pavilion would cost about $150,000. He estimated, however, that two years would be required to raise the money before construction could begin.

For the past 23 years, the club has used the facilities of the M.I.T. pavilion, located downstream from the Harvard Bridge near the proposed construction site. Harvard's fleet of 20 dinghies is now stored on floating docks accessible only through the M.I.T. building.

Preliminary drawings call for the construction of a 155-by-63-foot building on pilings over the River. The exact location of the pavilion and the final design are both subject to approval by the M.D.C.
