Suspects Unrounded Up In Tragedy at Brattle

They didn't round up the usual suspects at the Brattle Theatre last night.

Hisses and sobs came from the audience as actor Claude Rains' classic line was ruthlessly chopped from all three showings of "Casablanca," the favorite exam-time Bogie film.

As the picture comes to an end, Humphrey Bogart and prefect of police Rains stand facing each other, a Nazi major dead at Bogie's feet. But this time, Rains doesn't turn to his men and say "round up the usual suspects." Four seconds worth of frames had been cut and the film respliced to repair damage, the management explained.

It won't be there tonight, either.
