City Council Petitions For Prayers in Schools

The Cambridge City Council has petitioned Congress for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to allow spokes prayers in the public schools. Rep. Thomas P. O'Neill (D-Cambridge) acknowledged in a letter read to the Council yesterday that he had entered the petition into the Congressional Record.

The school-prayer resolution, introduced by Councilor Andrew T. Trodden, was passed unanimously on Sept. 16. Cambridge public now have of silent daily to replace the Bible reading that has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
