Cambridge Tries New Street Sweeping Plan

The City of Cambridge will experiment with a new plan for street cleaning begining July 8. If successful the plan, which depends on the voluntary cooperation of Cambridgians, will replace present regulations of one-side parking and odd-and-even parking. The new plan would save Cambridge taxpayers thousands of dollars.

Under the plan Cambridge has been divided into five districts and each will be swept on a regular day of the week. One week the even-numbered side of the street will be cleaned. The next week the odd-numbered side will be cleaned.

When the sweep day fails on an odd-dated day the odd-numbered side of the street will be swept; the even-numbered side will be swept on the even-dated sweep days. Sweeping will be done the day after trash is collected in each district, and will be done between midnight and noon.
