More Jobs Available To '63 College Grads

More and higher-paying jobs will be available to this year's college graduates than the class of 1962, the Department of Labor reported this weekend.

In a report based on the statements of college placement officers, the Department said that job opportunities in the sciences and in engineering are especially plentiful this year. Aerospace and chemical firms have been particularly energetic in recruiting graduating seniors.

Accounting and insurance firms were also said to be attempting to hire large numbers of graduates, and government agencies, according to the report, are recruiting "far more actively than before."

The report also said that beginning salaries offered to graduating seniors average three to five per cent higher than last year's. Salaries for engineering graduates average almost $600 a month, as opposed to $550 last year, the Department noted, and almost all other fields are also offering higher pay.
