The Program for Harvard Medicine has received strong support from foundations in its $54 million drive. To date 38 foundations have contributed $12,555,087 to the Program, about twice the amount of foundations money received by the Program for Harvard College in its $82.5 million drive and $4.3 million more than Princeton obtained in its recent $53 million campaign.
Ridley Watts, general chairman of the drive, said the contributions from small foundations have been especially significant. Gifts of $250,000 or less totaling $2,245,087 have come from 28 foundations. The Program has raised a total of $30,811,805, with nearly $18 million coming from private donations.
Recent gifts to the Program include an unrestricted grant of $100,000 from the Richard King Mellon Foundation of Pittsburg, $100,000 for teaching and research from Mrs. Gilbert Verney, Greenwich, Conn., and $240,000 for neurology work from John Factor, Beverly Hills, Calif.
