The golf team broke even in a triangular meet yesterday, beating Boston College 5-2. but bowing to Williams be a 4-3 score. The match left the varsity with a 2-2 record in Spring competition. Three Crimson golfers scored double victories in the Newton match held at the Charles River Country club.
Depeading on depth rather than individual brilliance, the varsity copped most of its points in the lower echelons. Pete Tague, Bob Selert, and John Olson in the fourth, fifth, and sixth slots respectively all swept their positions. Selert shot a sparking 16 while Tague (last year's freshman captain) and Olson fired winning 78's.
The varsity's match came hard on the heels of another split victory in Lynn field on Friday. Playing against a stiff northern wind, the golfers managed to stop the Jeff's of Amherst before falling to a strong Tufts squad.
winner of the New England championship last year, the Jumbos boast two of the best players around is Barry Bruce and Bob Morgonstern. Both were quarter finalists in the New England Amateurs last year and neither had much trouble with Crimson competition on Friday.
The Crimson also lost its opener against Navy two weeks ago, but were handicapped by the loss of two top performers. Stan Abrams at number one and Captain Bob Holton in the fifth spot were unable to compete.
