Crimson Nine Faces Gymnasts Today

Game Time: 2 p.m.

Last year, the varsity baseball team had to travel 75 miles to Springfield to beat the Gymnasts, 13-3. Today, the Crimson will only have to stroll the 150 yards between Dillon Field House and Kindlestick Park.

The game should be a wide-open affair with fun for all (the two teams have scored a total of 16 runs in each of their two last meetings). Today's contest will also give the varsity a brief respite from its two pennant races, since Springfield is in neither the Ivy nor the Greater Boston League.

Coach Norm Shepard will send either Bill Guzzetti or Dick Garibaldi against the Gymnasts. Guzzetti, who hasn't worked in ten days (his last outing was against the University of Virginia), is probably the favorite, but Shepard won't make his final decision until this afternoon.

Team spirit is high after the 12-2 pasting of Navy on Saturday and the squad would like another victory to carry it into its two important league contests coming up this week end--and the boys should get it.

Gavin Gilmore currently leads the squad's offense with a .394 batting average. Both Tom Bilodeau and Terry Bartolet are hitting the pellet at a .367 clip while Dick Diehl and Tom Stephenson are tied at .332. Stephenson leads the team in RBIs with 7 and in home runs with two.

This weekend the Crimson has two important league contests. It will play at Columbia on Friday and at Northeastern on Saturday. Paul Del Rossi will probably go against Columbia, and either Garibaldi or Guzzetti will work Saturday, depending upon which one Shepard goes with today.
