Icemen Beat Bulldogs, 6-0, Take Ivy League Title

Over 4200 yelling Yalies jammed their way into New Haven's Ingall hockey rink (seating capacity 3908) Saturday night, but found very little to cheer about since the Crimson spent the evening white-washing their Bulldog skaters 6-0.

Wasting no time at all, the Crimson scored four goals in the first 16 minutes of play to extend its winning streak to six and finish the Ivy season undefeated. The shut-out was goalie Godfrey Wood's second in as many games.

Five different varsity players poked the puck past the various Yale goalies to see action. Ike Ikauniks broke into the scoring column first on a pass from Dave Johnston at 1:08 of the first period. The tally came on an extra man play and was soon followed by scores off the sticks of Tim Taylor, Gerry Jorgenson, and Mike Patterson.

Trailing by four, the Elis countered by switching goalies at the start of the second period. Unimpressed, coach Cooney Weiland's three forward lines added two more markers before the third period.

Billy Lamarche made it 5-0 for the Crimson on a backhand shot from the right side of the Bulldog nets. Johnston and Taylor picked up their second assists of the evening on the play. Ikauniks rounded out all scoring with a goal at 15:54 of the second period.

While the varsity offense peppered the Yalie nets, Godfrey Wood, at the varsity end of the ice, stopped everything the Elis had to offer. The Crimson net minder had 26 saves and made several phenomenal stops that brought prolonged applause from the New Haven crowd. Weiland's first-string goalie has not been scored against in his last 130 minutes on the ice.

Harvard celebrated its victory by announcing its new varsity manager for the coming year--Peter F.R. Walker of Winthrop House and Duxbury, Mass.

Scoring: first period-Ikauniks (Johnston), 1:08; Taylor (Kinasewich), 6:25; Jorgenson (Fryer and Kinasewich), 14:37; Patterson (Taylor and Blakey), 16:25; second period Lamarche (Johnston and Taylor) 12:22; Ikauniks (Blakey) 15:54.
