Tennis Team Takes Second Place In EITL Tournament at Princeton

With two sophomores leading the way, the Harvard tennis team made an impressive showing in the Eastern Intercollegiate. Tennis League's fall tournament at Princeton this weekend.

The Crimson took second place, behind Princeton, last year's undefeated league champions, but ahead of such strong teams as Army and Penn.

The teams played three singles and three doubles tournaments; the first and second players from each college met in one tournament, the third and fourth players played in another group, and the last tournament paired the fifth and sixth players from each college. There were also tournaments for the first, second, and third-ranking doubles teams.

Sophomores Clive Kileff and Dave Benjamin won the Crimson's only title, winning a tournament for the number three doubles team from each college. They won over an Army team in the final after beating Hugh Lynch and Lee Rawls of Princeton in the Semifinals.

The number one Crimson player, Frank Ripley; Vic Niederhoffer, number three; and Benjamin all made the semifinals of their tournaments. Ripley beat Army's Al Oehrlein before bowing to the eventual winner, Princeton's Herb Fitzgibbon, 6-1, 6-0.
