A trip to New Haven and the right to represent Harvard house football in the annual game against the Yale college champion may well hinge on the outcome of today's Eliot-Leverett game.
The Elephants and Bunnies, both undefeated and unscored on in, two games, clash head-on at 4 p.m. on the house field behind the stadium. The winner will, be strongly favored to take the house championship.
Low Scoring Game
Pete Wood, co-captain, and quarterback of the Eliot squad, predicted a lowscoring game but declined to guess which team would finish on top. "Both clubs pass well, and both play a pretty tough defense," Wood said. "I think the game will be decided in the defensive secondary."
Leverett co-captain Keith Julian agreed that pass defense will be the key to the game. "Wood is very dangerous on roll-out passes, and Eliot's halfbacks Jim Swartz and Rod Moorehead are quick on their feet."
Powerful Bunny Fullback
The Elephants will be keying on powerful Leverett fullback Jev Sheldon. "If we can hold him, we can contain their running game," Wood predicted. "Then it will be up to our pass defenders."
Although Eliot won the championship last year, finishing one game ahead of second-place Leverett, Wood shunned the favorite's role for today's game. "They have a lot more players back from last year than we do," he said.
Elephants Blast Lowell
In their two games to date, the Elephants trounced Lowell 21-0 and edged Kirkland 7-0 on a quarterback speak by Wood with 35 seconds left remaining in the game.
Leverett beat Dunster 14-0, and Dudley 21-0, relying on their passing attack for most of their scores in both contests.
