Crimson to Seek Revenge Over Yalie Squad Today

The Crimson baseball squad will face the Eli nine at 3 p.m. this afternoon at Soldiers Field in what should prove to be one of the season's most exciting contests.

The Crimson will seek revenge for a 6-3 loss suffered at the hands of the Bulldogs earlier this year, the loss which kept the squad from the Eastern Inter-collegiate League championship.

Coach Norm Shepard's team, with a season total of 18-4, sports impressive wins over Army and Navy. Barely nosed out of the EIBL crown, the Crimson brought home the Greater Boston League championship.

In addition to a superb team performance, the Crimson players reaped individual honors. Team captain Dave Morse and three other players were elected to the GBL All-Star team. Sophomore pitcher Paul Del Rossi, second baseman Terry Bartolet, and hot-corner man Mike Drummey earned All-Star berths.

"Wolf-Man" Drummey displayed his prowess in the batter's box by winning the Charles H. Blair bat, annually awarded to the leading batsman in the EIBL. His .471 average was top in the league. Second to Drummey was Bartolet with a .412 average.

Starting Lineup

Today's starting Harvard lineup will find Dick Diehl behind the plate, Phil Bernstein at first, Bartolet at second, Drummey at third, and Morse at short.

The outfielders will be Curly Combs in left, Gavin Gilmor in center, and Bob St. George in right. Gilmor displayed great strength at the plate this season with three doubles, two triples, and three home runs, in addition to a .321 batting average.

Coach Shepard has not yet chosen his starting pitcher, but it will be either Dick Garibaldi (5-1) or Del Rossi (9-1). Al Yarbro (4-1), Bill Humenek; and Dick Sargent will be ready in the bullpen. Del Rossi had a low ERA of 1.44, and a total of 60 strikeouts with only 26 walks in the 75 innings pitched.

Impressed With Yale

Although Yale has no standout players, Harvard coach Shepard was "impressed by the quality of the team. Their record doesn't indicate just how good they are. They are a strong team, a veteran team, and they have two excellent pitchers in junior Bob Kelley, a rightander with a good fastball, and sophomore Chris Getman, a southpaw."

As strong as the Yalies appear to be on paper, Crimson supporters can look forward to a winning afternoon, for the squad appears to be in top shape after five or six days of solid practice.

Alumni and seniors will march to the game; the parade is set for 2 p.m. Members of the 3rd, 6th, 10th, 15th, and 20th year reunion classes--but not their families--will be admitted by badge if marching; 25th reunioniers and families by badge. Others need tickets.
