All of yesterday's Boston sports pages trumpeted, "Fastest Mile Ever Run by N.E. Collegian Seen" or words to that effect. Well, too had, guys, but it just isn't going to happen. The varsity track team is still favored in the Greater Boston meet starting today at Brandeis, but Mark Mullin, the man who would have made the record race, is saving himself for the Heptagonals.
Rick DeLone and Serge Nichols could go one-two in both the shot and the discus today for the Crimson. Tom Holcombo, Hebie Armstrong, and Hank Hatch may sweep their events.
Armstrong, Zeke Asikiwo, and Sid Marland should be at the top in the hop, stop, and jump, and Asikiwo and Marland will also threaten in the broad jump. Marty Beckwith and John Voosen in the high jump and Don Forte and Jay Mahaney in the pole vault should pick up points.
The Crimson will enter Harry Rich, Ed Hamlin, and Eddie Meehan in 330 trials today. Rich will try to run back to back trial heats in the 440 and 330.
