In one of his finest performances, captain Mark Mullin led the varsity track team to victory over Dartmouth and Brown Saturday in a triangular meet at Hanover. The Crimson, boosted over the top by a surprise sweep in the javelin, had 92 1/2 points, to Dartmouth's 32 and Brown's 9 1/2.

Mullin set two Dartmouth stadium records as he covered three and one-half miles for the day. In the mile, he fought off a last-lap challenge by Indian Tom Laris and won in 4:09.6. Although the mile time set a record, it might have been a great deal faster.

As Mullin passed the half-mile post in 1:59.6, he somehow heard his time as 2:05, and figured the hell with it, more or less. If Mullin had known where he stood, he might have set a few more records.

Later, Mullin led a Crimson sweep in the 880 in the record time of 1:58,8. Harry Rich was second in 1:52,8, and Eddie Meehan third in 1:53.6. Finally Mullin ran a 9:29 two-mile to take third as Laris edged out the varsity's Ed Hamlin in a ding-dong 9:20.3 battle.

Besides turning in his best 330 clocking, Meehan ran a 4:15.0 mile behind Mullin (another best), and anchored the second-place mile relay unit with a 51.3 440-all in all, an astonishing display of versatility.

The varsity was still in danger when Pete Kelley of Dartmouth threw the javelin 186 ft., 10 1/2 in. to move into first place late in the meet. But then three Crimson performers-Hobie Armstrong (206 ft., 1 in.), Hank Hatch (199-1/2), and Tom Holcombe 192-10 1/2)--came through to finish one-two-three and ice the meet.

Rick DeLone was a double winner for the Varsity, capturing the shot at 53 ft., 8 1/4 in, and the discus at 151 ft., 10 1/2 in. Sid Marland, with 22 ft., 2 1/2 in, in the broad jump; Ted Bailey, with 192 ft., 2 in. In the hammer; and Marty Beckwith, with 6 ft., 2 in. in the high jump (tie) also contributed firsts.

Gerry Ashworth of Dartmouth won the 100 in 9.7 and the 220 in 21.5.
