Varsity Routs Brandeis, 10-0

The Varsity baseball team clinched the Greater Boston League title by beating Brandeis 10 to 0 in eight and a half easy innings at Soldier's Field yesterday. It was the Crimson's fifth GBL victory--and game--of the year. The win put second-place Boston College out of the running.

Sophomore pitcher Paul Del Rossi got credit for the win, although he was replaced in the eighth inning by Al Yarbro. Del Rossi's record now stands at eight wins and no losses, and the shutout pushed his earned run average below 1.00. As usual, the southpaw showed good control, striking out five while walking none.

The Crimson scored four runs in the second inning and three in both the third and sixth. Brandeis helped the Varsity out by issuing free passes--nine of them--when Harvard couldn't get hits. All the safeties in the game were singles.

The Varsity takes the field against Holy Cross this afternoon in Worcester. The Crusaders, as always, are good, and it promises to be a rough game.
