Freshman Plan Weekly Festivity

Despite imminent hour exams, freshman boys will be lured from behind their books every Friday night starting next week by a new program of free social events at the Union.

An informal folk sing, with individual performances, group singing, and a presentation by the newly formed Freshman Band, will kick off the series on March 16. The Freshman Council decided this week to set the following Friday night, March 23, as a mixed bridge tournament. If the game is successful, tournaments may be scheduled regularly.

Tentatively on the program for the Fridays following Spring vacation are a Freshman Talent Night, in which students would have a chance to display their numerous unique skills and accomplishments, and a number of movies, which student spokesmen hastened to describe as "old, but good." The specific movies have not yet been chosen.

Present plans would fill every weekend as far as the beginning of May with some sort of activity. The last weekend in April has been set for the annual Freshman Jubilee, for which the budget has reportedly exceeded last year's (a high at the time) by more than $1000.

Council officers explained the new series of activities as an attempt to get more freshmen into the Union, and at the same time "to make it doubly attractive by giving them the opportunity to bring their women in."
