WHRB's Radcliffe AM transmitter began operation at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Girls in all brick dormitories and off-campus houses nearest the Quadrangle can now hear WHRB on AM radios at 550 kilocycles. Formerly, the station only reached 'Cliffe FM sets.
WHRB president Michael S. Rice '63 said that the widened Radcliffe audience would not affect programming, since Radcliffe news is already included in broadcasts. "Increased reception should interest more girls in working on the WHRB staff," he commented.
The new transmitter, which is located in the basement of Moors Hall, was designed and assembled by the station's technical crew. Like the AM transmitter for Harvard dormitories and Houses, the Radcliffe unit sends signals along the electrical power lines. WHRB's FM broadcasting is done over the air from an antenna on top of Holyoke Center.
