Radcliffe Library May Open Saturday Nights Over Reading Period

Radcliffe library may be opened on Saturday nights during Spring Reading period, Ruth K. Porritt, librarian, has announced.

The test run in January, when the library has the greatest use, indicated that interest was not sufficient to include Saturday nights as part of the regular library schedule. A survey revealed that nearly 100 girls used the library on the week night, and on one Saturday there were a mere 38 girls studying.

Although the cost of keeping the library open an extra night would not be prohibitive, the problem of finding a staff for Saturday night work still remains, Miss Porritt said. The final decision rests with President Bunting and her advisory board.

The rule forbidding men above the first floor after 6 p.m. will remain in effect. Although she called the boys "very nice and responsible young men," Miss Porritt expressed concern for the safety of the girls.
