A muddy field and lack of teamwork held the Harvard rugby team to a scoreless tie against the Montreal "Barbarians" in last week's contest. The shut-out, the Crimson's first game of the season, indicated that the squad has a long way to go before jelling into a coherent unit.
Today the Crimson Ruggers will try again--this time against the Boston Rugby Club at Soldier's Field. Coach John Van Schalwyk has said that a better team (improved by a week of practice) will be working today.
Unpredictable Club
The Boston Club is made up of a group of former rugby players living in the area. Skilled but out of condition, they are as unpredictable as they are dangerous.
Against this threat, the Crimson will be running a strong group of backs, including Mike Auer and Dick Shulman. Backfielders Dick Carey, Ian Paisley-Tyler, and John Hutchinson are also potential scorers.
A dry, fast field and some good ball-handling should give the better trained Crimson fifteen a chance to get its running game into play for the win. Either way, the contest will give Harvard a good work-out in preparation for their toughest game of the season against Dartmouth next week.
