Superior Court Hears Case This Morning Against Club 47

Club Mt. Auburn 47, charged with operating without entertainment or victualer's license, takes its case to the Middlesex County Superior Court this morning. The coffee house was closed October, 30, because of alleged fire law violations and is barred from reopening until the present litigation is settled.

The Court will hear the case in Representatives of the Club pleaded Cambridge at 11 a.m. not guilty to the license charge in District Court November 21, but their lawyer asked for a quick decision in order to bring the issue to the higher curt. The District Court judge entered a find-of guilty, assessing nominal fines.

Victor D. Oppenheimer, president and Director of Mount Auburn Inc., claims that fire officials tried "to find a pretext to close the club." He made the charge in a statement to the Massachusetts Attorney General.

Oppenheimer has also said that he sees a connection between police actor, closing down the club and objection by the Police Department to "Sing Out for SANE" programs held at Club 47.
