A second-period spurt led by Pete Kelley gave the varsity basketball team a come-from-behind victory over Columbia Friday, 75 to 67. The second half of the Crimson's weekend was less successful; the quintet lost to Cornell in Ithaca, 82 to 75, Saturday night.

Led by Woliansky and Jim Brogan, Columbia managed to compile a four-point lead by half-time.

Kelley, after scoring four points in the first half against Columbia, got hot in the second half and rallied the varsity to its win. When Art Woliansky, Columbia's high scorer with 25 points, fouled out at 8:11 of the second half, the Crimson overcame the home team's last lead of the game.

The loss was the seventh straight for the Lions on their home court at University Hall in New York City. The win was the Crimson's eight in 12 starts this season.

Saturday night the Crimson moved on to upstate New York for its eleventh straight contest on the road. Cornell, unbeaten now in three Ivy League competition, led for most of the game. A slow first-half for the Crimson - with the several personal fouls - left the varsity behind 39 to 30 by intermission.

The Crimson outscored Cornell, 45 to 43, in the second period but continued to foul too much. The varsity's Dennis Lynch left the game with five personals midway in the second half, and Bill Danner was banished shortly before the final whistle.

High scorer for the game was varsity captain Gary Bourchard, who scored on five field goals and on 12 free throws for 22 points. Deering scored 12 points.
