Baseball Team Faces Cornell Nine Today

The varsity baseball team will try to even its 2-2 record in the Eastern Inter-collegiate League when it faces Cornell today at Soldiers Field at 4 p.m.

The Crimson snapped a three game losing streak by beating B.U. in its last game Tuesday, and got a route-going pitching performance from lefthander Tom Boone.

Coach Norm Shepard will be looking to his top man, righthander Al Yarbro, to stop the Big Red. Yarbro is 2-2, having lost his last start to Northeastern.

Weak pitching has kept the Crimson from challenging for the lead in the Eastern League, since the team batting average is close to .300, with seven regulars hiting better than that.

The lineup should remain the same, since it has been producing the runs. The top hitters of late have been Phil Bernstein, a first baseman, who took over for Jim Mullen when the sophomore failed to hit in early games, and Dave Morse, who made three hits against B.U.

Al Martin, in his second year as captain, Dick Shima, Mike Drummey, Charlie Ravenel, and Dick Diehl are all hitting over .300.
