Rugby, Cricket Clubs Share Wins With Eli

Harvard competition against Yale in the traditional English sports, rugby and cricket, met with mixed results Saturday. While the cricket team defeated Yale 75 to 48, the Rugby Club's first fifteen lost a see-saw match to the Elis, 14 to 12, and the second fifteen pulled out a 6-6 tie.

The Harvard scoring effort in the first home cricket match of the season was more or less evenly divided between Captain Derek Jarrett, Tony Cross, and Geoffrey Charwick. A re-match, scheduled for Sunday, was cancelled, but the two teams will meet again in New Haven Saturday, May 6.

A crowd of 200 people saw the rugby team at less than full strength hold onto a slim lead until a last-minute Yale score put the game away, 14 to 12.

Playing their first game without the advantage of a spring trip, the first fifteen came back from a 6-3 deficit at the half, only to see a 12-9 lead erased when two men were put out of the game with injuries. Yale was then able to score a quick five points against the remaining 13 Crimson players.
