'Charities' Nets $3800 As Campaign starts

Early signs indicate that the Combined Charities Drive may reach its goal of $24,000. Financial reports were available last night from only two Houses and the Yard, and these showed that about $2,800 was collected yesterday.

Martyn D. Greenacre '64, publicity director of the drive, revealed last night that the Yard led the first day of the campaign with donations totalling $2,500.

The drive officially began last night when Dean Monro addressed the 180 workers at a kickoff dinner. He stressed the necessity of such projects as the HCC, and said the recommended charities were especially worthy of financial aid.

The six recommended charities include PBH, the Greater Boston United Fund, the National Scholarship Service and Fund for Negro students, UNESCO, educational radio and television station WGBH, and the World University Service.
