Report Says Federal Fund Use May Prove Costly to University

University Contributions

The University estimates that it contributes $211,310 worth of Faculty advice to Washington each year, according to the report on "Harvard and the Federal Government."

The report cited the University's freedom in allowing Faculty members to consult on a part-time basis.

"In the Faculty of Arts and Sciences," said the report, "it was exceptional to find that the average number of days per member spent on Government business exceeded a day a month."

The figure of $211,210 (for 1959-60) "cannot properly be considered an unreimbursed cost in the sense that reimbursement should be expected or desired," added the report.
