An Earnest Plea

It is said that cheering at football games is non-U. Not so. In some places, indeed, it is the Thing To Do. Alas, for some reason, rooting the team home has never caught on here to the degree it should.

One looks with alarm upon this situation. Supporting the team enables the spectator to share in the emotional rewards of the gladiatorial contest. It imbues one with a feeling of concern, of identity with one's fellows. It's fun. It should be encouraged, not denigrated.

For the team is, after all, the symbolic embodiment of the place where most undergraduates will spend at least four years, and all too possibly more. Surely all must feel a strong loyalty to the scene of the innocent gambolings of youth. The path of duty is clear: Support the Patriots.
