Griswold, Key Join Election-Law Study

Two members of the University Faculty have been named to a special citizens committee to study "obvious inequalities and abuses" in the Massachusetts election laws.

The appointment of Erwin N. Griswold, Dean of the Law School, and V.O. Key, professor of Government, to the panel was announced this week by Massachusetts Secretary of State Kevin H. White.

Massachusetts' election laws have already undergone careful scrutiny in a survey by a research commission under the direction of the Secretary of State. Griswold, Key, and other leading citizens from the fields of politics, law, and journalism will weigh the results of that survey and prepare recommendations for legislative action during the 1962 session.

The special committee will concentrate on three vital areas of abuse: disclosure and control of campaign funds; nomination procedures; status of local city and town political committees.

Key said yesterday that "the proposals are modest," but action on them "may help the Massachusetts political situation."
