Charity Gifts Total $12,000

After the first night of the Combined Charities Drive, College undergraduates had contributed $7,314.71 towards the Drive's goal of $22,000. Yesterday's "disappointing" receipts brought the total to approximately $12,000.

Leading the Houses Monday night was Quincy with pledges amounting to $1,000.33, followed closely by Leverett House with $871.52. Dudley trailed far behind the rest of the Houses, contributing only $47 after the first day. Between Leverett and Dudley were Kirkland, Winthrop, Eliot, Lowell, Dunster, Adams, and Claverly in that order.

The most affluent area proved to be the Yard, however. The Drive collected $1,875.77 from the Class of '64 alone Monday night. The average contribution of freshman who paid was the second highest in the College, at $7.81 per person. One freshman gave $100, the largest single gift from an undergraduate.

Leverett House's average of $9.58 per contributing student was the highest among the Houses for the first night. Dunster and Lowell Houses came in second and third with averages of $7.68 and $7.56 respectively.
