Wendell Elected Soccer Captain; Mullin Will Lead Cross Country

Edward E. Wendell, Jr., of Quincy House and Milton, was elected captain of the 1961 soccer team at a meeting of the squad in Dillon Field House yesterday.

The cross-country team elected Mark H. Mullin of Dunster House and Mt. Carroll, Ill, its leader for next season. Mullin, number one man on this year's cross-country team, reached his peak with a second in the Big Three meet in New Haven behind Yale's Bill Bachrach. He finished 11th in the Heptagonal championships at Van Cortland Park in New York City.

Mullin also holds the University record in the mile, 4:10.6, set last spring.

Wendell, inside left, scored four goals this fall on coach Bruce Monro's 7-2-1 soccer team. Considered a good dribbler and playmaker, Wendell dominated the first half of the Brown game, scored the first Crimson goal unassisted, and helped the team to win, 2 to 1.

Elected to the football managerial staff were Charles L. Gagnebin '63, of Quincy House and Cohasset, varsity; Sam H. Moorer '63, of Lowell House and Tallahassee, Fla., freshmen; and Arthur Alpert '63, of Dudley House and Boston.
