New Squash Galley Opens

The new gallery at the Hemenway Gymnasium squash courts was opened last Friday with a luncheon and short ceremony before the Harvard-Yale weekend festivities.

President Pusey, speaking to a small gathering of alumni and University officials, officially opened the new facilities and thanked W. Palmer Dixon '25, the donor. The new stands parts of a $100,000 remodeling project at Hemenway, will seat 200 people for one match or 300 for two matches.

The gym interior has been re-designed so that the rear of the gallery serves as a small lobby, in which are displayed pictures and trophies of Harvard squash history. Many of the records in the lobby are those of Dixon, raquets captain in 1925 and former national champion.

Introduced by Dean Watson, acting Director of Athletics, Pusey praised the designers and Dixon for "encouraging students to keep the sport alive." "At the College," Pusey continued, "we try to set a standard for other schools. In very few areas of athletics have we done it as well as in squash."
