Sailing through a 18 knot southwesterly, the varsity sailing team tied for first in the NEISA Team Racing Eliminations, but lost to Yale and MIT and failed to qualify for the finals.
All three fleets amassed five victories and one defeat in the Thames River series, which also involved the University of Rhode Island, Northeastern, the Rhode Island School of Design, and Wesleyan.
In early races (which pitted two four-skipper teams against each other), the Crimson skippers outdistanced the Elis, who in turn put down the Engineers. In order to win the series the Crimson then had to outskipper the Tech boats.
Boxed in at the start, Carter Ford, Mike Lehman and company failed to catch the Engineers, who tied up the series and forced the committee to decide the victory on points. Yale had 307 1/2, MIT 206, and Harvard 182 1/4.
