A fire of undetermined but suspicious origin erupted in Adams House A entry early yesterday morning. The blaze itself caused little damage, but a small flood resulting from the overly-effective sprinkler system wreaked havoc in the room of Michael B. Ritchie '60.
Fire department officials have turned in evidence to the State Fire Marshal, who is investigating the blaze. According to Massachusetts law, any fire of a suspicious nature, of undetermined origin, or involving a possible law intraction is subject to state investigation. A report is due later in the week.
One of the windows in the hall of A entry had been opened, and several wooden matches were discovered on the scene.
Ritchie, director of "Oh Dad, Poor Dad," described the events this way: Returning from a cast party at 4:30 a.m., he discovered a four-foot pile of crumpled newspapers outside his door. Dismissing it as a prank, he entered his room and prepared to retire when the smell of smoke began to permeate the room.
