New Theatre of Pioneering Design Goes Up for Gala July 9 Opening

Construction of the Metropolitan Boston Arts Center goes on apace in preparation for the gala opening on July 9 of the Cambridge Drama Festival's production of "Twelfth Night."

The theatre is the first of its kind in the world. Of basically circular design, the structure will have an inflated roof and a seating capacity of about 1800. Provisions are incorporated for both proscenium and arena production, and facilities for concerts.

Surrounded by a moat, the project will offer plenty of free parking space, and will also, being located near the Charles River, be accessible by boat from down-town Boston.

Endorsed by Gov. Furcolo and organized by leading citizens in the arts, business and industry, this summer's Festival will present three Shakespearean plays.
