The James B. Conant Prize for scientific essays was given to Albert W. Alschuler '62 for his paper, "The Social Background of Scientific Secrecy." Clement Herschel prizes were granted to Peter Watermeyer IG, and to Merrill S. Hohman.
Austin B. Mason prizes were granted to Robert H. Stewart 3G and Paul G.M.J. Van Ael 1G for outstanding work in the field of soil mechanics. Michael D. West '59 received the Lewis Curtis Prize for excellence in Latin.
