Police Institute Patrol Along Charles River

A nightly patrol on the banks of the Charles River has been instituted by the University Police in an effort to prevent the recurrence of incidents like the beating last month of a Business School student.

Lasting from early evening till dawn, the new beat covers the Cambridge side of the river from Dunster House to Boylston Street. The regular patrol assigned to the Business School continues to provide surveillance on the Boston side of the river.

The shore patrol demonstrated its usefulness last Sunday morning when a patrolman spied four suspicious teenage boys near Weeks Memorial Bridge. After the arrival of reinforcements, police apprehended the youths.
