Four teenage boys early Sunday morning precipitated a chase across Weeks Memorial Bridge which involved four squad cars and three police departments.

The incident began when a University Police officer discovered the youths loitering on the Cambridge side of the Charles River, near the bridge. After observing what he believed were suspicious actions on the part of the youths, the patrolman called for reinforcements.

With their retreat in the direction of Harvard Square cut off by the appearance of the Cambridge Police, the four suspects fied across the bridge. Due to the timely arrival of an MDC cruiser, however, they were apprehended before reaching the Boston side of the river.

No charges were pressed against the youths, who identified themselves as residents of Stoneham. A WHRB reporter who arrived on the scene, said, however, that the boys were "abusive and fresh" to the officers.
