Although the overwhelming emphasis of this week's practices has been placed on Saturday night's Ivy League meet with Dartmouth, the swimming team still faces a tough encounter with Springfield at Springfield this afternoon. Coach Bill Brooks looks for a close meet, but feels that the varsity should win.
Handicaps include a 20-yard pool rather the customary 25. This physical obstacle is sometimes a hard, but necessary, adjustment. Other difficulties are forcefully displayed in the persons of Rog Neckton, a capable 220- and 440-yard freestyler, Dave Carrington, a 2:14 200- yard backstroker, Bill Lawson, the Gymnasts' co-captain and New England inter-collegiate diving champion, and Jonathan Owen, also co-captain and an outstanding performer in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Crimson will be without Gary Pildner in the backstroke and, depending upon the course of the meet, Captain John Hammond will probably not swim in the butterfly, despite Springfield's strength in this event.
