Professor of Finance Quits Treasury Post

Dan Throop Smith, professor of Finance, yesterday resigned as the U.S. Treasury Department's chief tax adviser. Smith began his tenure of service with the Treasury Department in 1953.

Secretary of the Treasury Anderson accepted Smith's resignation "with reluctance and a genuine feeling of regret," asking that he continue as a consultant on the negotiation of tax treaties with several foreign countries. The resignation becomes effective a week from tomorrow.

No successor has yet been named Anderson said.
