The Administrative Board has turned down a petition for extension of parietal hours in freshman dormitories, Alexander Korns '62, Freshman council member, announced yesterday. Korns submitted the Council petition of 1012 names to Dean von Stade last week.
In a letter to the Council, von Stade cited the "relative youth of the students involved" and the difficulty of controlling the numerous exits of Yard dormitories in explaining the Board's decision. To the Council's suggestion that each proctor patrol several proctoral units one weekend a month, he replied that this is not a proper function of proctors.
The privacy of individual freshmen was another reason mentioned by Von Stade for not permitting late Saturday parties.
Korns also claimed that the petition's provision for extension under "whatever conditions the Administration may care to make" would more than compensate for the age difference between freshmen and sophomores.
Von Stade suggested to the Council that, in place of later parietals, the Freshman Union might be utilized to a greater extent in the evening "We will certainly accept this proposal," Korns said, but added that he felt students would probably not like to use the large common rooms.
