Professor's Play To Be Produced

William Alfred, assistant professor of English and General Education, has stepped beyond his customary field of medieval studies to playwrighting. His first play, entitled "Hogan's Goat," will receive its premier performance in Sanders Theatre Nov. 1 and 2.

Two years of work went into the tragedy, which Alfred describes as "a play about Irish-Americans in Brooklyn around 1890." Composed in verse, the play has three acts plus a prologue.

Alfred, who has a half-Irish background, drew the idea for his play from stories told him during his childhood. He hopes to have "Hogan's Goat" produced off-Broadway, and New York producers will attend the concert readings of the play. Jerome Kilty will produce the Sanders performance.
