Undaunted by their "failure" last night, several groups of Freshmen are planning a riot for Thursday night and, in the words of one strategist, "We'll keep trying until we get a good one."
Last night's trouble was noisy but brief. A Roman candle went off in the Yard, along with several firecrackers and someone set off the fire alarm in Thayer South. University police immediately began to take bursars' cards and the disturbance ended.
Despite the fact that disciplinary action has been taken against some of the participants in the first fracas last Sunday, those involved in current plans insist that they are not seeking "revenge" against the Administration.
They did feel, however, that the University was wrong to "have a clenched fist for those who wish to release the tensions of a years' studying."
"Psychologists consider spring demonstrations an excellent way to let off steam," said one, who asked that "the University be as lenient as other schools."
They emphasized that those who have already had their bursars' cards taken were not planning to "indulge" on Thursday, but admitted that some might "be swept up into the enthusiasm" if their efforts are successful.
Future plans have not yet solidified, although one group is considering a panty raid, and another may hold a "burning of the Gen Ed books" on the steps of Widener.
