Varsity golfers expect a close match against visiting Holy Cross this afternoon at the Charles River Country Club. The Crimson managed to defeat the Crusaders last year at Worcester, but this season Holy Cross will present a team composed almost entirely of returning lettermen.
In contrast, the varsity will use two sophomores, Bill Rose and Bob David in the number six and seven spots. However, both are promising young players and should aid today in stopping the Crusaders.
Bill Cunningham, who leads the Holy Cross team, will face the Crimson's number one man, Alan Steinert. Last Friday in a triangular meet with Princeton and Brown, Steinert scored a one under par on the same course to defeat both his opponents and hopes to repeat his success today.
Playing in the number two position will be Perry Driggs. Driggs took one of his two matches Saturday. As number man last week, Robert Grundeman, like Steinert, brought the varsity a double win.
Dave Beadie and Frank Dodge will hold the fourth and fifth spots. Both were beaten by the men from Princeton only to come back for victories over Brown.
Tomorrow the golfers will travel to Middletown, Conn., to meet a strong Wesleyan team. With Seniors unable to make the trip because of General Examinations, the Crimson squad will be dominated by Sophomores and will be in for a very tough match.
