Charity Support Reaches $8,750; Goal Impossible

Nearly complete returns from the Combined Charities Drive total $7398, Paul E. Freehling '59, PBH solicitation chairman, announced last night.

In addition, $1350 with more to come, was contributed by the GSAS, the Law School, and Medical School, for a total of $8750. Totals for the Radcliffe Drive, conducted separately by the Student Government Association, were not announced.

Freehling remarked that the average individual contribution of $3.44 is $1.25 less than was estimated at the beginning of the drive. "Had it been what we expected, we would have made our goal," he said.

Although the goal of $12,000 for the college appears unattainable, Freehling hopes to collect $1600 more, or $9000. This will easily exceed last year's total of $7500.

The Yard leads in overall collection with $1555. The highest for the Houses is $1555 from Eliot House. Lowell House is third with $1068 and Kirkland next with $910. The rest, in order, were Dunster, Winthrop, Leverett, and Adams.
