Councilor Alfred E. Vellucci and Senator John F. Kennedy '40 shared a "real Italian dinner" last night in a crowded East Cambridge restaurant. The meal served as a breather in the Senator's hurried campaign tour of Cambridge yesterday. On the tour, Kennedy shook hands with thousands of voters, and visited City Hall.
His motorcade stopped at City Hall shortly before 5 p.m. During the brief visit he addressed City Hall employees in the Council chamber. He then walked in the Council chamber. He then walked through Central Square, shaking hands with passers-by, while a loudspeaker atop one of his cars announced his presence.
After a high-speed trip to East Cambridge, Kennedy arrived at Macarelli's Restaurant, where he ate a multi-course Italian dinner with members of the City Council and East Cambridge residents who jammed the eatery. After the meal, Vellucci introduced the Senator, who proposed a toast to "Sal" Macarelli, the host.
Kennedy then went on to visit the Jewish Community Center and finished the day with a two-hour public reception at the Commander Hotel.
