Capt. Dyke Benjamin sliced 11 seconds off the course record at Franklin Park yesterday as he led the varsity cross-country team to its fifth consecutive victory in a 17 to 40 triumph over the University of Massachusetts. Benjamin paced the Crimson harriers in the record time of 25 min., 36 secs.

In breaking the record which he established only two weeks ago, Benjamin was pressed relentlessly by sophomore Jed Fitzgerald. The two ran close together over the last half of the five mile course until Benjamin made a decisive spurt within 400 yards of the finish. Fitzgerald's second place time of 25 min., 50 secs. was only three seconds off the old record and represents his finest effort of this year.

In the freshman meet, the Yardlings turned in a fine team performance as they swamped the Massachusetts freshmen, 19 to 44, for their fifth victory in six meets. Yardling captain Marc Mullin notched his sixth straight first place by equalling his own previous course record in a winning time of 14 min., 58 secs. for the three mile distance. But the real surprise of the Yardling's win was that they took eight of the first nine places despite the absence of their number two and three men, who were sidelined with injuries.
