Yardling Soccer Defeats Nichols; Will Face M.I.T.

The freshman soccer team scored its third straight shutout by defeating Nichols Jr. College 3 to 0 last Saturday. Lew Bernstein scored the first goal for the Crimson in the second period.

"A strong defense and a much better passing attack" than Nichols, coupled with "constant pressure and a good team performance," gave the Yardlings their victory, coach Dana Getchell commented after the game.

Getchell felt that the squad, which has a 3-1 record for the year, met easier competition against Nichols than he had expected. However, the coach pointed out that the Yardlings still face the hardest games of the season, starting with M.I.T. tomorrow.

The lineup included Malin rw, Bernstein lw, Wendell rf, Johnstone lf, Tyson c, Cox rhb, Spruance chb, Branon lhb, Jeppson rfb, David lfb, and Martin g.

Due to heavy substitution in the fourth period, 31 team members played. With his team clearly in the lead, coach Getchell took the opportunity to substitute liberally and give experience to many players.
