The 123 mile, $239 million Massachu-setts Turnpike was opened several weeks ago, after two years of construction. The superhighway has two roads of three lanes each, separated by an 18-foot center strip. It ends at the New York State line, connecting with N.Y. Route 22, for Albany at West Stockbridge.
There is an interchange at Sturbridge for Route 15 to Hartford, New Haven, and New York City, which avoids the dangerous and often congested Wor-cester Bypass. The travelling time to the interchange is 45 to 50 minutes.
Speed limits on the highway are 60 m.p.h., maximum, and 40 m.p.h., minimum, and will be enforced by turnpike police travelling in green stationwagons. Passenger car charges range from 15 cents, from Weston to Natick, to $2.45, to the N.Y. state line.
