The varsity lacrosse team ended its season Saturday, losing to Yale, 11 to 5, in a disappointingly sloppy game at the Business School field.
The loss left the Crimson in fifth place in the Ivy League standings, having beaten only Penn. Yale, last year's champion, wound up in third.
The Crimson's passing was notably erratic, enabling the Elis to dominate a game that should have been much closer. Even in the final quarter, when Yale sent in its third string the home team was unable to take control.
The outcome was never in doubt. Yale jumped off to a four goal lead early in the opening period and never fell behind. The Bulldogs' Jim King netted the first two, one when he caught Crimson goalie Dick MacKinnon coming out of the crease. Mike Shaw tallied the only Crimson score of the period on a pass from Dick Pille.
Season-long Failing
In the second period the Crimson offense followed its season-long failing of not taking enough shots at the opponents' goal, passing up numerous opportunities in front of the Yale nets. The ball, however, spent most of its time in Crimson territory, where the Elis added three goals to bring their halftime lead to 7 to 1.
The Crimson showed signs of making the game close when it scored two quick goals at the start of the third quarter. Dick Pille tallied from about 10 feet out on a pass from Dub Mallonee, who scored himself two minutes later, working through about three Yale defensemen to the Eli goal.
The last period saw each team score twice more. Mallonee registered two goals for the Crimson to become high scorer for the afternoon with three.
The freshman team put a successful end to their season by edging the Yale freshman squad 11 to 9.
