Adams House students are composing a petition to protest the rumored installation of a new tile floor in the dining hall.
John W. Fenn '57 reported that when he came to dinner at 6 p.m. yesterday, the steward told him that the floor's measurements were being taken. Fenn decided to start a petition to preserve the old-style floor which, he claimed, "fits into the architectural style of the House."
By 7 p.m. about 170 signatures had been collected. Petitioners indicated that their objections are not directed specifically against tile. "This is just not an ordinary wood floor," one said. "It's fine wood in a complex pattern of squares. The screwholes are covered with darker wood, so the floor looks as if it is pegged down."
